Read the post Copyright or Copywrong and the Reuter's article, Music Industry Wins Song Download Case and share your thoughts on the process the RIAA is using to try and stop music piracy. Do you think this will have any effect on people illegally downloading music?
To be honest.. what is wrong with downloading music online, so it is illegal, to me, it is just a tag for it .. Illegal.. it just makes people believe that it is wrong..
In addition, the article about the woman who got charged for distributing music across the internet.. It may be just a set up..
To scare people who are doing it..
But then again.. maybe it's just the distribution of songs through the internet is wrong, but the downloading for personal use is okay..
There are three sides to this..
To me they are.. the distribution, the personal use, and the truth, and the truth can only be identified by the RIAA ..
One last thing.. it says in the article that music producers are losing money.. yet.. they can make more songs for us to enjoy? If they are losing money, then why don't they just STOP. It's simple, although it ruins their reputation but still.. might as well take the initiative..
what i tihnk of this is that like the person said it could be a hox and just to scare people and if its not then many people could be sued and theres nothing more i can say that wtran didnt say for me
I agree with this last person here....saying that its ok to download for personal use but the use of illegaly downloaded music to sell..is wrong.
On the other half, i guess i wouldn't like it if i became a music artist and people freely got my music.
About the old lady article....im not sure if thats true becuase yes, it could be used to scare people out of illegaly downloading music, but it could also be true so... i dont know.
The thing i see thats wrong with this whole situation is that we hear their new music on the radio anyway so technically, downloading music, is like listening to the radio.
I dont care about what they can do to you for downloading music...i dont think anyone will... No matter what they say, people are still going to continue to download music...you cant stop all of em.
I agree if the artist and mangement did not want people to hear their music than what is the point of making it. But on the other hand they are losing hard earned money that they put forth for us to enjoy. Studio time, tracks, instruments...etc, all cost money so they do have the right. The consiquences are too severe for downloading. I beleive a fine should be enforced and not being sued.
i think its unfair to prosecute someone trna get music off da net for free. some of us dont got mnoey to just go out and buy cds or nothin,so its so dum how unfair the rich poeple gotta be to da poor people. Ya feel me?
People are never going to stop downloading music period. The scare tactics their using are retarted, they may catch a couple people but theres still a billion more. Thats just human nature if somethings free why not take it.... The woman that was sued didnt deserve that punishment, that was outrageous all that money for 24 tracks. what has this world come to???? in a way these articles have touched me i will no longer download music, INSTEAD I WILL HAVE A FRIEND DO IT FOR ME!! HAHAHAHA
People will alwys be downloading music for free no matter what...A reason i say this is cuz some people dont have the money to just go out and buy cds or songs off itunes so we gotta get our music some way..And i dont think the rich people should have a say in what the less fortunate do cuz its not their problem to worry about..
i agree with what everyone is saying about how it is wrong that they prosecuted her for downloading music. Tyler made a good point when he said some people don't have the money to just go out and buy all the CDs, Dwayne said that it is free so why not take it? well i agree with him, yeah the music companies are losing money but its just music, who really cares if someone makes a cd and listens to it for awhile? music was first made for everyone to enjoy, so whats wrong with doing what was intended with music??
I think that fining $222,000 for downloading music is way too severe.People aren't ever going to stop downloading music who wants to pay money for something thats free. The lawsuits are stupid though.I understand why the music industry is trying to prosecute people I mean they lose money on every song thats downloaded illegally, but they shouldn't be sueing people for hundreds of thousands of dollars. They should just fine them or charge them the cost of each song.
who ever stels music will be in fear and they will do it less, with them doing it less little music will be pirated and due to fear many will not steal music.
In the first article, Copyright or Copywrong, it mentions a way for illegal downloaders to pay their finds online, and avoid getting forced to pay more in court. I do not think believe this is a good idea at all. For one reason, you must enter your credit card number and give it to an unknown source. Also, you will not have anyproof you ever paid your fine, unless the website is a secure, government ran site.
The second article, Industry wins song dowload case, talks about a case of piracy by a woman who lives in Minnesota. She was forced to pay fine of $222,000 for illegally using a music sharing program Kazaa. I do not believe she should have been forced to pay such a heavy fine. I understand she was using the website for illegal activity, but she was fined to much. The RIAA needs to make a stand, but shouldn't force a single person to pay that much.
In my opinion i think downloading is legal. If they have so many sites for downloading and someone gets a song why is it the persons fault maybe they shouldn't have so many sites like that.If they want to stop downloading why don't they get rid of those sites.Downloading is good because if I like a song and I get that persons cd and I don't like it I would've wasted money, but if I just downloaded it I could have got the song I like without wasting a penny.
well, shoot i dont know what to think...... i love free music like every other high school kid.but.... yea the RIAA has every right to do what they do , cause if i was in the music distribution and not maken no MONEY for what im doing , i would start suing people too. Yea .I do think this all got started because of the crazy prices today. You pay somethinkg like 20.00 to 25.00 for a C.D. man for get it. And i dont think that just because they caught some people,,,,, dosent mean they can get EVERYONE!
"For one reason, you must enter your credit card number and give it to an unknown source. Also, you will not have anyproof you ever paid your fine, unless the website is a secure, government ran site"
Usually.. sites that are tied to something important, in this instance.. the RIAA.. or something similar to it.. credit card numbers will be classified information to others..
In addition.. usually there will be a page when someone pays or buys something online where it shows the acception of the payment and a payment number.. which is usually shown on online bill payments and whatnot..
This is off-topic but I just wanted to point out that paying a fine online is not a bad idea..
Since bills act the same way as well..
To make this simple..
RIAA = Cox Fine = Montly Bill
I haven't read if there are certain ways you could pay online, but still credit card information is something that should not be taken into account when you are paying for something you have done..
I believe that the RIAA is doing an ok job at preventing people from pirating music. However, even though they have caught several people, they still can't stop the millions of people in the world continuously downloading songs. I believe that if the RIAA really wants to stop people from pirating songs, then they have to write some sort of code to prevent songs from being put back on the internet after being bought/downloaded.

I agree with what the RIAA is doing because the artist's are losing money for their work. But I don't think people should be getting sued for it because its really not that serious, so I think a different form of punishment should be enforced.
Mando says that the RIAA is just trying to push the money back into their pockets they expect to sue a person 9thousand dollars for every track they took what about if its a track no one heard the RIAA is sueing the public more than the artist gets paid not only are we getting took but the artist every time a person gets sued they end up getting a very small amount of the winnings in other words you are n ot going to stop the public from takeing the music stop trying

people dosenth really care about what people say about illegal down loading but i donht care because i do the same things to so i dont really worry

Something has come up to my attention..
Exactly how is downloading music illegal? It is not mentioned in any of those articles..
They say producers are losing money, no.. they are EARNING LESS, how do you lose money by people downloading music over the internet..
Just my other 2 cents.
